This variety is medium in size, ovate oblique in shape and orange yellow in colour. The pulp is yellow to orange in colour. It is soft, firm and fibreless. It is a mid-season variety.
It has a natural distinct aroma, flesh is saffron-colored and without a hint of fiber.
The Alphonso gained distinctiveness and favorable characteristics like the pleasant fruity smell, no fibre, extremely aromatic and sweet taste, becoming popular among buyers. The distinctiveness comes from geographical conditions of Konkan, Maharashtra area as the same are not observed in other varieties grown elsewhere.

Each individual fruit of mango is enclosed in a clean, white, soft, expandable and netted type polystyrene sleeve to prevent bruising before packing in a box.
The mangoes are packed in insect-proof boxes. If ventilated boxes are used, all the ventilator openings of the box is covered with insect-proof screen and all the sides of box should be sealed with adhesive tape to prevent any entry of pests.
The materials used inside the package is new, clean, and of a quality such as to avoid causing any external or internal damage to the produce.
The use of materials, particularly of paper or stamps bearing trade specifications is allowed, provided the printing or labeling has been done with non-toxic ink or glue.
Mangoes shall be packed in each container in compliance with the Recommended International Code of Practice for Packaging and Transport of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (CAC/RCP 44-1995, Amd. 1-2004).
