Variety and their Characteristics
Grand Naine (G9) Banana variety- Its plant is tall-statured and yields heavily with a long cylindrical bunch. The average weight of a bunch is 25kg and can grow up to 30 to 35 kg. Such a bunch has 8 to 10 hands and 200 to 220 fruits per bunch. The length of a single fresh banana fruit is 15 to 21 cm and girth/calibre is 12 to 13 cm.
Robusta Banana variety- It's a normal type of banana variety with a statured body. Its stem has normal saturated black-brown blotches on its stem. Its bunches weigh around 20 kg having 8 to 10 hands/bunch. The average length of a single banana fruit varies between 15 to 21 cm and girth/calibre is found around 12 cm. This variety of bananas has thick fruit skin.
Dwarf Cavendish Banana variety-
Scientific name: Musa acuminata 'Dwarf Cavendish'
Cultivar: 'Dwarf Cavendish'
This banana variety has a plant with dwarf stature. Its stem has black-brown blotches all along the stem. Bunches are larger in size, but they're arranged in a compact manner. No of hands per bunch is 8 to 10 and weighing about 20 kg/hand. Fruit length is 13 to 14 cm with girth/calibre about 8 to 10 cm on an average approx. The skin of this banana variety is thick. This variety has a tapering shape at the tip. It's used for domestic supply mostly.
Red Banana variety- This banana variety has a tall plant with a robust stature. Fruit, petiole, pseudostem, and midrib have a purplish red color. The weight of a bunch is 20 to 25 kg, the number of hands per bunch is 6 to 7 per bunch and the number of fruits is 80 fruits per bunch on average. This variety of bananas has an average length of 16 to 18 cm.
Nendran Banana Variety- This banana variety is found with diversified, multiple plant stature. Its bunch is grown with 5 to 6 hands and weighs around 6 to 12 kg per bunch. This fruit has thick green color skin which turns buff yellow on ripening. It has a distinct neck shape and size. Fruits are observed starchy even on ripening.

The Banana Fingers with Black Spots and scratches due to Mosquito Bites, Aphids, Jassids attacks, and climate effects are rejected, and discarded straight away.
Also, if Banana Fingers are found with damages, scratches, or black spots because of the handling, and plucking process then the same are also rejected, and discarded straight away.
